Rojo

por María García, Argentina

Semáforo en rojo: pare, peligro de choque. Rojos globos rojos.

Red

translated by María García

Red light at the corner: stop, crash danger. Red balloons red. Red color of the blood splashed on the wall and red of passion and disgrace. Red roses.

Deep crimson in your whore lips, whore because you do what you feel, crimson, ruddy or red. Broken-watermelon red shattered on the streets of Lima or Bogotá, fireman-red fighting the reddish flames of fire. Communist red, socialist red and anarchist black & red; hammers and anvils at the red-hot forge.

Blue blood that is red and proletarian blood of the same kind, it is red and it is anarchist or communist blood in the block of flats of Buenos Aires or Glasgow.

The Red Cross on a crash wounds.

The lava drains down the volcano slope. Scarlet color at 1000 degrees, or more. The eyes reddened because we cried very much, we smoked so much or we didn't sleep that much.

When women make up with bright red lipstick there's no more peace or respite. Bright red and rouge.

To the south, Argentina limits with the Colorado river, a current that doesn't currently laugh, but blushes with shame.

Resignation and routine were never, and ever will be of the color red. Garnet pulp of the pomegranates. Red-light district. Bills in the red, school report the same. Red blood of a wounded bull or red of a female's hemorrhage.

It's a fact... every red thing... is dangerous.
