For years copywriters for Kotex produced Are you in the know? advertisements for teenage American girls (see more at left and at the bottom of this page). The text and pictures are great remnants of long-gone America. As I've mentioned elsewhere, you'll find only Caucasians in these ads, boys' faces look like the girls' (both babyfaced), and the advice they give, and their more-formal dress, suggest at least a middle-to-upper-middle-class audience. Times have certainly changed! More comments below the ad. See a more complete discussion elsewhere. So, what's a droon (text under first picture)? It's probably teenage contemporary slang or a Kotex invention; the Oxford English Dictionary for that time doesn't list it. It can't be the droon of a recent childrens' book. In the second picture: Kleenex comes from the same company as Kotex, Kimberly-Clark. I think "allowance" gives away their high-school ages as opposed to college in the restaurant situation.
